Silver Maple: Measure the Tree Before Choosing the Work
Species alone does not determine permit or grant eligibility. Size, location, condition, ownership and the proposed work all matter.

- 1Confirm ownership
Boulevard trees are City trees and residents cannot hire private work on them without authorization.
- 2Measure DBH
Use circumference at 1.4 m above natural ground level, divided by 3.14.
- 3Identify the objective
Deadwood, structural pruning, support, pest care and removal follow different paths.
- 4Get a professional assessment
Cavities, co-dominant stems or overextended branches do not automatically mean removal.
Preservation options
Pruning and support can reduce identified risk
A qualified arborist may recommend removing dead or damaged branches, reducing an overextended limb, installing a support system or monitoring the tree. Cabling and bracing are supplemental support—not a guarantee against failure.
