Credential guide
Who Counts as a Qualified Arborist for the London Tree Grant?
ISA certification is one accepted route, but it is not the only route. The City uses the definition in London’s Tree Protection By-law.
Accepted qualification routes
London’s published definition includes four categories
Ontario-qualified arborist
An arborist qualified through the Ontario ministry responsible for training, colleges and universities.
ISA Certified Arborist
A professional with active certification from the International Society of Arboriculture.
ASCA consulting arborist
A consulting arborist registered with the American Society of Consulting Arborists.
Registered Professional Forester
A full member in good standing with the Ontario Professional Foresters Association.
Utility arborists
“Utility arborist” is not an automatic yes or no
The City says a utility arborist may not be considered qualified for this program. That is different from saying every person with utility experience is excluded.
A worker may hold more than one credential. The practical question is whether the person responsible for the proposed TCCP work also meets one of the accepted qualification routes.
Verification checklist
Before you submit the quote
- Get the individual professional’s full name—not only the company name.
- Ask for the credential type and number where one exists.
- Confirm the credential is current with the issuing body.
- Confirm who will perform or supervise the work.
- Ask for proof of insurance appropriate to the job.
- Keep the quote, assessment and proof of payment for the City process.
Qualification does not guarantee funding
The credential is one program requirement. Tree size, work type, timing, documentation, funding availability and City review still affect the decision.
