London Ontario Tree Canopy
The "Forest City" Canopy Dashboard
The City of London has set an aggressive goal to reach 34% tree canopy coverage by 2065. See how your neighborhood stacks up and how you can help protect our historic streetscapes.
Protecting the Forest City
London didn't get its nickname by accident. Our mature trees provide critical shade, lower summer cooling costs, and increase property values by up to 15%. However, urban development, invasive species, and age are threatening the canopy in older neighborhoods like Woodfield and Old South.
How Homeowners Can Help (And Get Paid)
While planting new trees is great, preserving a 100-year-old Oak provides exponentially more environmental value than planting a sapling. That is why the City of London actively funds the Tree Canopy Conservation Program. If you have a mature tree on your property, the city will pay you up to $1,000 to have it professionally maintained, cabled, and preserved.
